Emergency Response Services

In our uncertain times all companies should develop a plan to ensure the safety of their employees in the event of an emergency. NRC’s consultants work closely with client companies to develop and implement an effective emergency action plan for all client locations.

An emergency action plan must be tailored for each specific workplace and is based on a thorough workplace hazard assessment. NRC consultants work with clients to complete this assessment and to identify physical or chemical hazards present in the workplace.

Based on the results of the assessment(s), an emergency action plan is drafted and contains, at a minimum, the following elements:

  • A preferred method for reporting fires and other emergencies
  • An evacuation policy and procedure, including assembly locations and head count procedures to account for all employees after an evacuation.
  • Emergency escape procedures and route assignments, such as floor plans, workplace maps, and safe or refuge areas.
  • Names, titles, departments and telephone numbers of individuals both within and outside your company to contact for additional information or explanation of duties and responsibilities under the emergency plan.
  • Procedures for employees who remain to perform or shut down critical plant operations, operate fire extinguishers, or perform other essential services that cannot be shut down for every emergency alarm before evacuating.
  • Rescue and medical duties for any workers designed to perform them.
  • Once the draft has been prepared, simulated emergency situations are tested against the plan and changes are made to any element that does not work properly. The end product is a written emergency action plan that has been tested and modified to ensure that it works.
